How far would you go to win a stage?

Do you know the story how the hedgehog outran the bunny? Exactly. So basically, we wait till everbody has started from the starting point; then we take a break, and then wait for everybody to finally arrive at the goal. Simple. Effective. 😉 (alternative strategy: Pick up paolo pony and you are the winning team no matter what, as the sun continues to shine out of your behind and never sets.)

Babka is busy and withdraws from the race this year. We will not be racing on the same route as our beloved hitchmates, but we still enjoy the perks and support the race. You craziers! Besides all the good stuff happens when you take a break.

... However, a little bit earlier, in a far-away spot on the black sea coast, one hithchiker takes the secret "Balkan route" and travels backwards in time and space to see the marvels of the region and arrive earlier than necessary. We are the social team: anybody who truly cannot make it to Germany in time (or needs to leave early) and wouldn't mind a solitary route is welcome to join. We have some goodies on the way. Mind to be expanded. Route details will be posted soon.

In-between rides: dip into the "infinity" pool in Velingrad and have laptop recharged. It's a typical Bulgarian belated capitalist venture: great idea to make money, and an execution that reminds you not to want to spend it: the combination of mountains and water is a bliss. Unless your head is under water, the fence at arm's length of the pool, reminds you how far the illusion of infinity extends if you try to buy it. Guess quality awareness has increased.

This guy is my personal hero today. He took me from the remotest mountain to the valley and then raced the train for three consecutive villages. We missed it for good eventually. The road wants to keep me some more.

Weliko Tarnovo - absolutely stunning. The smell of fir cones mixes with a San Francisco-like street map, Italian-looking houses, and Bulgarian groceries. Nice place for an Erasmus.

The Cyrillic alphabet was spread across the Balkan by a host of driven monks and a laborious Tsar (who bought back couple of the monks sold as slaves by the Pope). Little did they know that twelve centuries later, it would take an Armenian businessman and sculptors to create a reverence. The 12-meter cross and Christian references are there for historical reasons only, of course...
